maui fire relief

The fires that raged through Lahaina Tuesday night were absolutely devastating. Hundreds of people are still unaccounted for and thousands lost everything. GFM is working to heal the wounds of this tragedy. The situation on the ground is ever changing and it’s a challenge to organize relief efforts, but we’re overjoyed by all the love, support, and prayers pouring out from our Maui community and across the world. We are so grateful!

In the first few hours and days after the fires, the focus is on getting people to safety and shelter, and providing desperately needed supplies to those still stranded on the west side of Maui. Once basic survival needs are met, our focus will shift to helping families get back on their feet. The best way to do this is through direct financial aid, and GFM is providing immediate cash assistance to those who’ve lost their homes and have nowhere to stay. As a 501(c)3 tax exempt organization, contributions to GFM are fully tax deductible. As a local Maui organization, GFM is positioned to move quickly and provide aid exactly where it’s needed. We don’t need to mobilize. We’re already here on the ground helping. These are our friends, our co-workers, and our extended family who’ve lost it all. We have to help!

In the coming weeks, months, and years, GFM will be working with local businesses, land owners, and other non-profits to facilitate the construction of new housing to provide for our recently houseless community members.

Check back for updates on progress and good news as we heal from the wounds of this tragedy. GFM will also be posting resources for finding missing loved ones, assistance in applying for and receiving aid from government agencies, and connecting those in the community with spare housing space with those who need it. Thank you so much to all those who’ve offered so much support in our time of need. God Bless You!
